James J. Loughlin,
Jr., Principal and Managing Director
Jim
is a nationally recognized restructuring professional with
more than 25 years of financial and operational restructuring
experience. He has been involved in all aspects of restructuring,
advising distressed companies, senior lenders and other creditors,
as well as equity sponsors. Jim’s institutional clients include
JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Citicorp
and UBS.
Jim
has led more than 100 engagements and has successfully restructured
more than $50 billion of debt. His recent experience includes
several large and complex matters such as Freedom Communications
and Journal Register Company (media), Interstate Bakeries
Corporation (consumer products), Werner Ladder Corporation
(durable goods mfg), Independent Wireless One (telecom), Kmart
(retail), Safelite Group (auto glass), Charter Communications
(cable television), Burlington Industries (textiles), CircleK
Corp (convenience stores) and Mariner Post-Acute Network (healthcare).
Jim
recently served as CRO for a fashion apparel company with
global product sales approaching $1 billion. The case included
a comprehensive operational and financial restructuring which
returned the company to profitability and reduced debt by
over $100 million. Other recent CRO assignments have included
Greatwide Logistics Services, which involved leading this
transportation logistics company, with sales of $1.5 billion,
through Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a successful sale transaction.
Jim also served as Interim CEO and CRO for Werner Ladder
Corporation (the world’s largest ladder manufacturer) during
its Chapter 11 and sale transaction in 2007. In 2005,
the Turnaround Management Association awarded Jim the Turnaround
of the Year Award for the work he did while serving as CRO
of Independent Wireless One (cellular phone company) which
included successfully restructured nearly $400 million of
debt with full recovery to all creditors.
Jim
is regularly sought after by business and industry media for
his perspective and commentary on restructuring trends and
the distressed sector. Jim is a Certified Turnaround
Professional (CTP) and former director of both the Turnaround
Management Association and the Association of Certified Turnaround
Professionals. He earned his MBA with honors from the
University of Texas at Austin and his BBA from Southern Methodist
University.
